Making the next step

Carolina House Trust works in partnership with Dundee City Council’s Throughcare & Aftercare Team to provide support to young people leaving the care system.

We have two Support Workers and one Tenancy Support Worker who work with you if you are between the age of 16-19, supporting you as often or as little as you need.

Your Resource Worker from Dundee City Council’s Throughcare & Aftercare Team can make a referral to us to work with you. This should make the next step of the journey less worrying.

Tenancy Support Service

The Tenancy Support Service is there to work with young adults preparing them to take on a tenancy. They can work with the young adult for a period of time prior to their moving in, allowing them time to work on budgeting, independent living skills, community living, cooking, self-esteem etc.

Initially the tenancy is not in the young persons name but over a six month period with support and guidance from the Tenancy Support Worker and commitment from the young adult it can be transferred to them.

The Tenancy Support Worker can continue to offer support for a further six months to aid them in keeping the tenancy in the long term. As a part of their role the Tenancy Support Worker is part of a drop-in service for young adults within TCAC.

What we do

1:1 work to prepare you for moving on
Work on budgeting and cooking.
Helping find the right place for you to live
Support you in your new tenancy
Help with buying furniture etc (where applicable)
Help move you in to your new home
Help you look at work, training or education opportunities
Run groups for young people to develop their life skills
Assist with complicated forms you may need to fill in e.g. statutory. benefits, college bursaries, housing applications
Help you to think about your future and the choices you have to make
